What is laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is a widely recognised process for removing unwanted hair from the body. It will remove hair permanently in 4-8 sessions to catch it throughout all of its growth cycles. It is fairly painless, as pulses of light from the laser of a pre-determined wavelength pass down the hair follicle and kill it in the root, preventing re-growth, without any sort of damage to the rest of the body. It is a proven, extremely popular treatment, that can remove unwanted hair permanently from any body area.

What exactly does the laser hair removal process involve?

Laser hair removal process involes a highly focused laser beam targeting the pigment inside the hair root. As a result, the follicle from which the hair grows, gets permanently destroyed by the laser beam. During your laser treatment at our clinic, a fully qualified laser technitian will carry out the procedure on the areas discussed at the consultation.

The laser works specifically to attack hair follicles by travelling through the pigment in the hair, down to the root, where the energy is absorbed by the bulb. During this process the follicle gets destroyed. As a result, the blood supply to the follicle gets cut off and it stops producing hair.

How many sessions are needed for laser hair removal?

A single laser hair removal treatment will generally take anything from 10 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the part of your body being treated. Due to the way the body works and produces hair, you will typically need more than one session as the hair grows in cycles and we cannot 'catch' and disable all follicles in one treatment. You will find that following each session, you will be able to go about your daily business as usual, without any negative side effects.

Women generally need less laser sessions than men due to different testosterone levels. The manufacturer of LightSheer Diode laser recommends 8 sessions for women and 10 sessions for men. However, from our experience, it is very rare that women need more than 6 sessions and men - more than 8 sessions with this powerful medical grade laser technology.

Is laser hair removal safe?

Laser hair removal is a very safe method of hair removal if you are in the right hands and follow all patients' guidelines. Our clinic has extremely knowledgeable staff to answer any questions you have and ensure that your laser treatment is safe yet effective.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

The discomfort during a laser treatment is minimal. Patients can opt to use EMLA cream to minimize the discomfort in the most sensitive body areas, such as bikini, underarms, ankles and occasionally lower legs. Our laser specialists can also help you apply certain breathing techniques during the treatment to minimize the discomfort. Many patients say that laser hair removal gives a lot less discomfort than other methods of hair removal, such as waxing or electrolysis.

Does laser hair removal work for ingrown hair?

Hair removal by laser is also the best solution for ingrown hair. Both men and women often suffer from this condition. The most common body areas for ingrown hair for women are bikini area (including extended bikini, Brazilian bikini, Hollywood bikinihalf legs, full legs and underarms; men can benefit from laser hair removal for ingrown hair on the face, neck, groins and chest.

Which laser hair removal is best for you?

The best laser hair removal technologies are the ones that have a specific wavelength of the laser beam that is precise to permanently destroy the follicles with hair growing from them. The optimal wavelength for hair removal is 805nm. Many articles have been written by different sources about different types of laser and where one can get best hair removal treatment. When it comes to permanent laser hair removal, one should consider two main points before committing to a course of treatments - regardless of whether this is a treatment for a small area, such as facial laser hair removal or laser hair removal for upper lip only, or whether it is a treatment for a bigger area, such as full legs, brazilian laser hair removal or a laser hair removal for full body:

1) The type of laser machine used by your aesthetic clinic. Not all lasers work effectively to help you get rid of unwanted hair permanently. Our clinic has done a lot of homework before we chose a laser to invest in to guarantee the best possible results for our patients. The LightSheer laser is specifically designed for hair removal: LightSheer XC head is used for small, medium and large body areas, while LightSheer HP of the LightSheer Desire range is perfect for larger body area, such as full back, shoulders, sides of torsochest, abdomen, buttocks, full legs and full arms. We have chosen this laser because of the extensive clinical research that demonstrates its effectiveness for permanent hair reduction. Other systems that we have researched cannot make this claim. We know it works and provides the kind of long term results that our patients have come to expect from an advanced laser clinic.

2) Number of laser treatments to achieve the results. Many clinics that offer laser hair removal will require you to come back for a treatment 10-12 times, while the LightSheer laser can do the job in just 4-8 sessions. The laser hair removal cost for a laser treatment in those clinics, however, can either be the same or higher compared with the clinics offering treatments with the LightSheer system.

3) Please, refer to our publication about the difference between laser and IPL.

Laser hair removal for men with LightSheer diode laser is very effective. Our male patients are very happy with the results that can be achieved through our laser system. Excessive unwanted facial hair or body hair can be frustrating. Laser hair removal for men and women works in a similar way with the difference of men's hair often being more dense. Men also tend to have thicker hair. Permanent hair removal for men is achievable through a number of laser sessions. With our laser, only 4-8 sessions may be needed as LightSheer diode laser technologie is specifically designed for hair removal treatments due to a specific laser wave length that it just right to disable hair follicles permanently. Can all hair be removed by laser hair removal in one session?

Hair cannot be removed by laser hair removal in one laser session. Your hair grows in cycles: some hair is in a growing phase and some are in a dormant phase at the time of the laser treatment. All hair follicles that have active hair in them at the time of your laser hair removal session, will never grow back. It is permanent. This is because a laser can only target the pigment in the root of your hair when the hair is in a growing phase. We will, therefore, have to wait 4-6 weeks for the next cycle of hair growth, depending on the body area. Once a new cycle of hair grows, you should book your next laser session.

Cost of laser hair removal that we offer is the same for men and women.
